Republicans seem sad to see
The jobless going back to work.
While others whoop, the GOP
Portrays an upward trend a quirk,
As though misfortune somehow struck
And hiring was their back luck.
September’s unemployment count
Decreased to 7.8 percent
Which still’s a terrible amount
That even Democrats lament.
At last, though, 8 it’s got below,
And 10.10 three years ago.
Chicago guys do anything,
Said former GE head Jack Welch,
A Romney backer trying to bring
Statistics into doubt and squelch
The boost they give Obama’s fight
By hinting that they aren't all right.
The BLS, which puts them out,
Is famously nonpartisan.
Insinuating it would flout
Its duty is a desperate spin,
Like saying unemployed gave up
When aging boomers hung it up.
What else do scoffers say is wrong?
A falloff in consumer debt?
That U.S. auto sales are strong,
And housing sales a safer bet?
Recovery’s more than just a glint.
Barack deserves another stint.
