Bernie's Got Company

Though Bernie Madoff is the worst,
He’s not the only one who’s cursed
For setting up a Ponzi scheme
That’s made our meltdown so extreme.

When mortgage brokers blithely loaned
To sub-prime buyers, they condoned
The risk that they would not get paid.
They sold the debt that banks ok’d.

The bankers shared their toxic waste.
With worldwide markets which, straight-faced,
Then offered bundled, jumbled junk
That plummeted to zilch, kerplunk.

Like hot potatoes, assets rolled
From hand to hand till growing cold
First in did well, like Bernie once.
Last in lost out, a trusting dunce.

As Bernie’s led away to jail,
Some others ought to ponder bail,
Who built MacMansions with the stash
From foreclosed millions short of cash.
