Allah Helps Those

As nasty world events arise
And we respond with flag unfurled,
When will we ever realize,
Not always can we change the world?

As wretched are the Taliban,
Who cut off heads to terrify
Afghanistan and Pakistan,
Our help’s no longer worth the try.

We beat them once and then pulled back
(Bin Laden and Al Qaeda skipped)
So Chaney/Bush could raid Iraq,
Though not consistent with their script.

Not found, those WMDs,
Just Sunni/Shi’ite/Kurdish spats.
The Taliban, meantime, reprise
Their role with higher killing stats.

Election fraud has Afghans mad.
Like in Iraq their tribes conflict.
Corruption, services are bad
And Taliban decree inflict.

And yet they too will lose their clout
Consumed by ancient anarchy.
Let’s put behind this futile bout:
Not one more G.I. casualty.

Secure the Pakistani nukes.
A billion on Osama’s head.
While in both cases use our spooks,
Make Afghans help themselves, instead.
