Say Cheese (or Queso)

A punishment without a crime
Like recent photo ID laws
That states have passed without a climb
In voter fraud enough to cause
Solutions where no problems lurked
Should go, or be at least reworked.

Like kindred laws to slim the chance
Of turning out an early vote,
Republicans hope they’ll advance
Their own agenda still afloat
To keep the ballot from black hands
And, too, Latino citizens’.

The thinking is that each crowd lacks
The time and cash for portrait shots.
Because it’s Democratic backs
And tit for tat that each holds lots,
We’ve watched this vain but ugly sight
Of trying to steal their basic right.

But wait! As far as I can tell
Election Boards like DMVs
Could take your picture just as well
For free if you would just say cheese.
To show you’re you, a gas bill bring.
Why must I think of everything?
