Can't Read Mitt's Lips

It’s obvious why Mitt’s obscure
About his plans as president.
It’s not as though he isn't sure.
Instead he has to circumvent
Specifics his own folks eschew
Like where to find more revenue.

There was a time Republicans
While in the White House saw the need.
Though hardly tax-increasing fans,
On new ones Elder Bush agreed.
His promises of none were slips
When, bold, he’d ordered,“Read my lips!”

Assuring that the über rich
Will keep their tax cuts Mitt commits
To closing unnamed loopholes, which
Means social safety nets take hits:
No longer write-offs for well-knowns
Like interest on our mortgage loans?

Or health insurance workers get
Or children’s education costs?
I like to think he’s nice and yet
Such casual contempt exhausts
The patience of a middle class,
For which he’ll end up on his ass.
