More Is On The Way

Our country’s most horrific storm
Should give the harshest skeptics pause
For thought about when oceans warm
And climatologists have cause
To say almost beyond a doubt
It gave bitch Sandy massive clout.

It also makes the oceans rise
As monstrous polar icebergs calve
And coastal landmass loses size
A mess Manhattanites will have.
On Staten Island, maybe more,
As well as down the Jersey Shore.

It moistens air that triggers rain
In torrents strange to northern climes.
When moving to a higher plane,
It dumps snow foreign to our times
In autumn to a depth in feet.
For Appalachia, offbeat.

The questioners who still believe
That global warming’s just a myth,
Should reappraise to what they cleave
And ask themselves instead forthwith:
If doubting proves to be contrived
Has point of no return arrived?

The answer’s yes and no, I fear,
The threat’s in making matters worse.
No question climate change is here
Ignoring it would be the curse.
Alternatives to fossil fuel
Like thermal can and ought to rule.

It’s why New York’s Mayor Bloomberg backed
Obama for a second term.
Though neither candidate in fact
Has laid out details that affirm
What climate change necessitates:
Deliverance from desperate straits..

Chris Christie, Jersey’s governor,
Cast off his crusty attitude
As he and Obie toured the shore
And later voiced his gratitude
For how the feds responded fast,
Which left the GOP aghast.

The vanguard helping states respond
Was FEMA, of which Romney said,
Katrina meant he wasn’t fond
And he’d make sure that it was dead.
But maybe in the darkest gloom
We see two-party wiggle room.
