Unholiest of Wars

I’ve never had much confidence
In second-guessing Israel,
For sure in matters of defense
When neighbors’ hate turns visceral.
Each time they’ve foolishly attacked
They’ve got their Muslim fannies whacked
.
The Jews are tough and smart and owed
Their tiny country well-deserved.
Post-Holocaust the world bestowed
The land survivors then conserved
With U.S. aid but sweat their own
And wishing to be left alone.

So when Hamas’s rockets fly
From launch sites in the Gaza Strip
Across the border, I ask why
It once again has lost its grip.
In on them, antimissiles home—
The new Israeli Iron Dome

Moreover, ships blockade its coast
And drones and planes above bombard.
The Palestinians are toast
Each time their leaders disregard
Security in place of war
Since infidels don’t fit next door.

This time, I’ve hopes it’s different,
The other neighbor, Egypt, chose
Mohamed Morsi president
Post-Arab Spring, who two worlds knows:
A Muslim Brotherhood national hit
Who holds a Southern Cal doctorate.

No other person in the world
Is in a better spot to end
This Middle Eastern rage that’s swirled
And urge both sides to see it mend.
A holy war has no defense.
To kill for God makes zero sense.
