Well Worth The Wait

At polls the exclamation point
Was those in line disposed to wait
Though sure the networks would anoint
Barack as winner of their state.
They knew, suppressed, but still enrolled,
Revenge is best when served up cold.

And shiver in some states they did
Where legislatures pushed I.D.s
Or tapered voting hours to rid
The suffrage of minorities,
Whose yeas and nays withal surpassed
Their balloting in ’08 cast.

What Mitt and backers overlooked
Was how the turf’s diversified
Until the night his goose was cooked
And rich white straight men heard decried
Their standing as a mainstream bloc
As tantamount to so much schlock.

Since Tuesday, immigration change
Has interested Republicans,
Whose platforms normally estrange
Latinos-cum-Americans.
Their kinfolk want to share the dream;
It’s closer now than it might seem.

The GOP apparently
Will give some thought to such a plan.
With Democrats it should agree.
It’s sort of how our land began:
Go-getters coming to our shore
With whom we need to build rapport.
