Insanity's Nadir

The N.R.A.’s Wayne LaPierre
In lecturing the nation’s press
On how the country must  beware
Of classroom kills that leave a mess
From kids whose lives had just begun,
Proposed a good guy with a gun.

How sexist could the guy have been?
A gal with gun can’t stalwart be?
He wants a Columbine again?
A manly sheriff’s deputy
Got off four shots but missed each time,
And thirteen died before their prime.

He also oddly pointed out:
To see that one man isn’t harmed
And guarantee it has the clout
The White House detail’s always armed,
As though inspiring kindred tools
To guard a hundred thousand schools?

He shouldn't come as a surprise,
More than gun owners, makers are
Considered as the best of guys,
Whose campaign contributions mar
A Congress still that’s up for sale
In spite of fright beyond the pale.

Perhaps the owners feel effects
Of nonsense LaPierre has spewed.
The bulk want universal checks
Of buyers’ backgrounds never viewed.
At gun shows. What insanity.
A breakdown in humanity.
