Unc's Funk

At first he might look only miffed;
He’d never bounced a check before.
But when the Chinese give short shrift
To pleas to wait a little more
For payments on their hefty loans
The sounds he‘ll make are heartfelt moans.

Instead our Uncle Sam might choose
To postpone oldsters’ SS checks
And Medicare if he construes
That even though it leaves them wrecks,
His honor ‘round the world’s at stake
Though he’ll be viewed at home a flake.

That’s if Republicans see fit
To hold the nation’s debt in hock
While whacking at the deficit
In hopes their tyranny will block
The kind of spending Uncle needs
To see free enterprise succeeds.

For what good is austerity
If few have cash on hand to buy?
For me it’s clear-cut verity
Demand-side stimulates supply.
If GDP stays on the rise
Debt’s less grave than we realize.

It’s Sammy’s debit-card account,
To be paid off without a doubt.
But not unless the net amount
Of revenue exceeds cash out
Each year, so at home and abroad
Our Unc’s the hunk to still applaud.
