When Jenny Goes Marching Off

If women want a combat role,
They ought to have the very chance
That men do, letting both control
How fast and far careers advance.

The only caveat should be:
They shoulder same amounts of weight,
Their packs and heavy weaponry,
Apace as battle plans dictate.

And just as crucial, wounded mates
To safety, never mind their size.
Indeed more swiftly. Speed abates
The danger that a buddy dies.

It’s not as though they haven’t served
By now in war zones ill-defined,
Performing what would leave unnerved
Civilian males not so inclined.

The issue’s upper-body strength.
In general, men have twice as much.
Will women go to any length
At working out to serve as such?

Enough, I bet, of ample brawn
To, as a gender, hold their own
On battlefields. A dicey dawn
Where chauvinism’s overthrown.
