Keep On Chillin', Papa!

Pope Benedict at last allows
That condoms have a needed use—
Just one, but ample to arouse
Conjecture that maybe he’ll loose
Twin rules for spousal dalliance:
Fidelity and abstinence.

Because of AIDS, male prostitutes
Should be permitted, he has said.
(No word a female’s john points out
He, too, should wear one in her bed.)
More to the point, those married pairs
When lust engulfs them unawares.

Your Holiness, what’s wrong with sex
For love and fun, not just to breed?
Some mates avoid becoming wrecks
When they don’t have more mouths to feed.
And what if one has HIV?
Ergo both spay, the Holy See?

Besides, what of your errant priests
And predecessors centuries back?
A child hurt, then they were beasts.
If adults only, cut some slack.
Perhaps from sins you list derives—
Like stem-cell research—richer lives.
