The Letter and The Spirit

In recent years the IRS
Has been a much more friendly place.
Although it still can dispossess,
It does so at a slower pace.
Before it raids your bank account,
It tells you first the owed amount.

Much to its credit, it refused
To audit Nixon’s enemies
When from its list his White House mused
At perpetrating felonies.
Today maintaining such a norm,
These taxmen brave a different storm.

Some parents of abducted kids
Now living with an estranged spouse,
Although the IRS forbids,
Wants it to tell them, Where’s the house?
It answers that all tax returns
Are not an angry mate’s concerns.

What seems to me a little rough:
It won’t help lawmen in a search.
But hasn’t Congress heard enough
To not leave judgment in the lurch?
Besides what fed would like it said
Though he was right, the kids are dead.
