Losing Our Sheen

What’s galling about Charlie Sheen
Is not the twit he likes to be.
It’s what his mockeries demean:
Recurrent meds and therapy,
As if his psychiatric health
Were passable because of wealth.

Just think of those in need of cure
Who hesitate in getting care
Because of stigmas that endure
And see on TV everywhere
His reveling in mania
That serves competing media.

Why not me too, those sick might muse
And throw away prescription pills
In place of weed or too much booze
That only aggravates their ills
And maybe bring some porn stars home,
Though give the kids the yard to roam.

He’s not just one more railroad wreck
Routinely on the network news.
Now lower taste and higher tech
Mean YouTube also spews his views.
If Sheen had any decency
He’d see himself as others see.
