Yield, Sirs!

In world affairs, among events
In my half-life as an adult
That brought me to a moment whence
I saw a truly huge result?
The youth-led coup in Tahrir Square,
Thus liberation anywhere.

Some runners-up include crusades
For women’s lib and civil rights,
Vietnam War-dispute parades,
The USSR’s final rites,
Though first an H-Bomb Test-Ban Pact
To keep the atmosphere intact.

That’s five to count on just one hand;
The second gives thumb-up okay
To young Egyptians’ gutsy stand
That sent Mubarak on his way.
Their Tweets and Facebook social links
Will make them famous as their Sphinx!

Algeria and Yemen see
The same displeasure in their streets
The yearning for democracy
Is what now provenly unseats
An autocrat who’d lost his soul.
Pray Allah, generals yield control.
