But It's Not Elementary, Watson

The world might think we’ve lost our mind
Permitting no new revenue
While cutting trillions undefined
Regarding programs we’ll undo.
The trouble is: the world’s correct.
Self-government we’ve all but wrecked.

For instance if they can’t agree
On how to trim the deficit,
The Democrats and GOP
Will in committee argue it
And if, I bet, accord’s forgone,
One half comes from the Pentagon.

The rest will likely transfer from
Those most in peril when ignored,
Such mindless budgets will become—
Because of cuts across the board—
Just cause why D.C.’s obsolete,
Which brings to mind a fresh conceit.

Remember when on Jeopardy
The robot Watson nimbly won?
Perhaps to bypass anarchy
He ought to replace Washington,
Which escalates the world’s dismay:
Our bonds no more are Triple A.
