I cannot fathom why the fuss
If S&P screwed up its math
In dropping us to A-A+,
Incurring mostly White House wrath.
Republicans enjoyed the botch:
It didn’t happen on our watch.
But not for long, I wouldn’t think.
They only proved what raters ruled.
Hard stances drove us to the brink;
Docility, disaster fueled.
We tumbled into an abyss
Where dumb-downed gall’s no longer bliss.
In general we were rated fools
For not achieving compromise
Abiding by long-standing rules
The world aghast saw us revise.
Our showdown in the Capital
Now make me think O.K. Corral.
Two hundred twenty-five years old,
The free world’s chief since World War II
You’d think there’d be no need to scold,
About what grown-ups shouldn’t do:
Like vow new revenue’s just wrong
Or snivel let’s just get along.
