Live and Let Others Live

Where the hell’s the moral compass
In those car ads flaunting menace?
Speeding drivers, much too risky,
Showing off their best 360.
Passing where there’s little room to.
Hypocritical in my view.
Automakers lecture buyers:
Safety’s paramount. What liars!
Ads’ key pitch? Testosterone, so
Figure all else counts for zero.

That’s why I’m exhilarated
By a Shell ad understated.
Boy and girl upon a moped
Wait in silence while the light’s red.
Voiceover: when once more they run
Boy’s to feel his pet sensation—
Not, in seconds, aught to 50,
Rather, slow, to be fuel-thrifty.
Meantime she, while his heart smolders
Pulls herself against his shoulders.
