The Country Comes First

I hope at last the President
Has gotten on the proper trail
And found a voice and argument
To let uncommon sense prevail:
The nation must spend more not less
To rid us of indebtedness.

Conservatives think otherwise:
Cut services, let taxes be.
If someone old or challenged dies
Lacking Social Security,
More money’s in financial hands
To meet supply though not demands.

Therein’s the basic fallacy
What good are goods stocked on the shelves
If people haven’t dough-re-me
To feed, clothe and equip themselves?
A marketplace cannot persist
If buyers only just subsist.

Says Warren Buffett, billionaire,
His tax rate’s lower than his staff’s
And that his well-heeled crowd can bear
To pay more than these fiscal gaffes.
Obama ought to take them on
Though after one term, maybe gone.
