Down the Gold Brick Road

Janet A. Napolitano,
Guardian Of our nation’s homeland,
Knocked Unconscious by Tornado,
Screams the Kansas City Star and,
Searching for a site to test germs,
Makes new friends although on odd terms.

One’s named Brownback, known as Straw Man,
U.S. Senate. Lacks a brain.
One’s named Roberts, known as Tin Man,
Also R-Kan. Heart he’d gain.
Third, Ex-Governor Sebelius,
Humbled as a spineless lioness.

Witches conjure more tornados
Spreading lethal pathogens.
Cyclone Staters left in death throes
Howl out their last amens.
Janet Ann laments, Sweet Jesus.
Doesn’t look to me like Kansas.

Down the state’s Tornado Alley
Janet and her friends proceed.
Oz’s Wizard says to dally
While he meets each new friend’s need.
Brain and heart and spine should rescind
Plans, he hopes, to test in such wind.

Dorothy, or rather Janet,
Wizard, soon, corrects himself,
Find an island where there’s no threat
Else these plans go on a shelf.

Janet says, I’ll further roam.
There must be someplace unlike home.
