National Highway Traffic Safety,
DOT’s administration
Sworn to make the drivers’ duty
Keeping traffic free of friction
Such as when they bash each other.
Maybe slur each other’s mother.
Tragic, they can kill and injure
If their mind’s in other places.
Hand-held cellphones pose a danger
In so many gruesome cases.
Now we hear that even hands-free,
Cellphone chatter’s just as deadly.
As distraction, near the same as
What a drunk feels when he’s driving,
NHTSA’s response has
Been to hide this. I’m not jiving.
Multitasking chatter-drivers
Congressmen viewed more as voters.
Chiefly those appropriating
DOT’s huge funding budget,
They’re who need propitiating.
Lethal chatter data? Fudge it!
Drivers dying on their cellphones?
Give those feds a skull and crossbones.
