Eurowoes

The European Union’s states
Think someday that they might unite
In such a way that re-creates
The government that we’ve found right:
Including common currency—
A basic problem, I foresee.

The E.U. has its Eurozone,
In which the euro changes hands
The trouble is, some states are prone
To splurge more than the other lands,
Who then must bail the neighbors’ banks
For profligate financial pranks.

Imagine if Virginians must
Pitch in to rescue Idaho
Since Pocatello Loan & Trust
Has funded Potent Potato
To steel our nerves (to no avail).
PL&T, though, mustn’t fail.

Don’t Netherlanders feel the same
About such recklessness in Spain?
Like me, I know they’re not to blame
And yet we all must feel the pain
When markets worldwide take a plunge.
E.U., these deadbeats, please expunge!
