Kids Should be Kids (Part Two)

Imagine that he’d never been
Sandusky, the defensive coach,
But janitor, who now and then
In boys-room showers might approach
With purposes no more complex
Than soapy, anal, oral sex.

Before the water had run cold
He would have found a hotter source.
Penn State’s police, no sooner told,
Already would have mapped his course
Toward lockup, court, then prison cell
Until his dusky twilight knell.

But no. For decades Jerry thrived,
Retiring emeritus,
And further sex abuse contrived
For years without a legal fuss
While managing The Second Mile,
More kids he hoped he could beguile.

The state attorney general moved
At last to rein the cravings in,
Which should have long before behooved
Coach Joe Paterno from within
To look into the shame accrued
As though the victims were his brood.
