Save the Fish Wrappers

Stormy cyber winds are blowing.
Journalism’s undergoing
Advertising slumps at papers,
Many running lean on vapors,
Risking fiscal detonations
While the younger generations
Rather watch TV and websites
For their news in speedy sound bytes.

Advertisers then relocate.
Consequently, print they vacate.
Media that flow through cable
Profit since results they’re able—
Lower-priced— to do what fetches
Buyers, dooming ink-stained wretches
Probing wrongs that hurt the masses.
Branding publicly bad asses.

Networks also dig up scandal
But in depth can’t hold a candle
To what papers like the Times do
(Like its Boston Globe, stressed beaucoup).
Jefferson, our founding scholar,
Said the papers made him holler.
Still, he added, given preference
Them he’d pick in place of governance.
