Your Money or Your Life

U.S. health care’s plain barbaric.
Pay or die if you get real sick.
Un- and undercovered panic.
Would our system looked more Gallic.
France’s system—socialistic—
U.N. figures rate terrific,
First in line, to be specific.

Thirty-seventh spot we cling to.
Costa Rica beats what we do
By one place. Behind us, guess who?
Try Slovenia. What a breakthrough
For a country almost brand new.
One more detail we’d as soon rue:
Our care costs the most. So sad, true

Just like Wall Street snatching billions,
Hospitals, insurers, surgeons,
Selfishly left care in ruins
Uninsured, some 40 millions.
Also hurt? Those covered, heavens!
Cop-out “pre-condition” reasons
Left more patients broke. It happens.

Once upon a time the business
Fought to keep its doings curbless.
“Harry and Louise” ads’ focus?
Government control’s pernicious.Reigning fragmentation, though, is
Why our health care lolls in crisis,
Needing guidance, not more gouges.
