Click All About It!

We owe Herr Gutenberg the grounds
Why newspapers are called The Press,
Though more and more the term confounds
The young for whom newsworthiness
Is sometimes zilch unless it’s seen
In vids upon some sort of screen.

For sure TV has journalists
Who bring great credit to their craft.
But ratings emphasis persists,
And viewers’ likings, often daft,
Mean Stewart and Colbert purport
To give the evening news report.

Compare with Woodward-Bernstein’s scoops
Unearthing sins of Watergate.
Month after month they jumped through hoops
To set the White House record straight,
So much so, Richard Nixon gone!
Thanks to the Post in Washington.

The New York Times, our noblest rag,
Routinely runs such exposés
While watching circulation sag
But entering a hopeful phase:
Subscriptions to its times.com
Herr, pray like you its site won’t bomb.
