The State of Columbia

The District of Columbia
Is leftist like no other place,
A liberal cornucopia
Established more or less on race:
A slim majority of blacks,
A third (count me!) broad-minded whites,
A tenth, Latinos, to the max
Too busy working days and nights.

Sufficient reason I deplored
Us leveraged as a bargaining chip
To bring Republicans on board
And not abandon stewardship
By closing down the government,
No doubt, a worse catastrophe
Than losing U.S. funding sent
For safe abortions in D.C.

But every Washingtonian
Gave ransom money for the land.
That’s what I call draconian—
A city forced to yield command
As though a sort of student board
That teachers casually ignored.
It’s time we joined the other fifty.
State of Columbia’s more nifty.
