Spend! Spend! Spend!

Obama in his TV speech
On whether all need tax relief
Induced the GOP’s stock screech
By challenging its fixed belief.
He called for hikes on those who clear
A quarter million bucks a year.

Right now they benefit from cuts
That W put into play,
But Democrats believe are nuts,
Too much for Sam to give away—
Enough to dent our deficits
Which give our stretched-out Uncle fits.

Obama wants to see cuts end
To help the poor and middle class.
The GOP, though, doesn't bend
In threatening a stark impasse:
Continued cuts for everyone
Or crucial debt increase undone.

Such cuts don’t take into account
That rich folks like to save their cash
In bigger shares than that amount
Their lesser peers have left to stash,
Whose paycheck gases up the tank
Instead of lounging in the bank.

Or pays off interest-bearing loans
Like mortgages and credit debts.
Though this might leave them skin and bones,
It stimulatingly abets
The nation’s economic vim,
Like blood the body at the gym.

Compared with wintering in Spain,
Or owning a chateau in France,
The dollars stay in their domain
And let the G.D.P. advance.
One jeweler makes a diamond ring
Assembly lines make finance sing.
