Twist and Shout

I can’t believe the blatancy
With which it twists Obama’s words.
According to the GOP,
Which for the campaign homestretch girds
“You didn’t build that” meant he slurred
Small-business founders. How absurd!

The infrastructure’s what “that” meant,
Which lets the firms transport their wares.
Perhaps professors heaven-sent
Inspired how to boost affairs.
The understanding that’s germane
Is civic help spurs private gain.

Our country’s “unbelievable”
In that regard, Barack declared.
Still, some response was bestial
Especially what Limbaugh aired:
The president “this country hates,”
Which savagery and lies conflates.

If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you've got a business-you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen. —Barack Obama, Roanoke, Virginia, July 13th
